Vietnam, Czech Justice Ministries Keen To Restore Links

PRAGUE, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Vietnamese Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong and Czech counterpart Helena Valkova on Tuesday highlighted the need to restore direct links between the two ministries especially at the ministerial level after a 25-year gap.

Cuong said during talks in Prague that the Czech Republic is experienced in resolving legal issues similar to those faced by Vietnam during its transition from a centralised economy to a market economy, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

The two ministers agreed to update a judicial assistance agreement on civil and criminal matters signed by their governments in 1982.

They believe an extradition agreement to be signed in the near future is a breakthrough in bilateral judicial relations.

Czech minister Valkova said her country will assist Vietnam in legal affairs as discussed in their talks, and the two ministries will implement joint tasks as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, Cuong also held talks with Jeronym Tejc, chairman of Czech Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs and Miroslav Antl, chairman of Czech Senate's Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

The minister said Vietnam is undergoing a process of judicial reform and is keen to learn from the Czech Republic's experiences.
