HANOI–State-owned PetroVietnam said Thursday it is in talks with Murphy Oil Corp. (MUR) about the possibility of cooperating further on oil projects in Vietnam and in the Gulf of Mexico.
In a statement on its website, PetroVietnam said it wants to offer some open blocks offshore Vietnam to Murphy Oil, though didn’t disclose how much a deal would be worth. The announcement came after its chairman Nguyen Xuan Son and Murphy Oil’s chief executive Roger Jenkins met on Tuesday in Hanoi.
The company said Murphy has plans to boost its operations in Vietnam, in addition to its ongoing projects in Nam Con Son and Phu Khanh basins offshore Vietnam.
Murphy Oil couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
