KARACHI: The country’s oil product sales stood at 13.7 million tons in the eight months of FY14, ended February 28 against 12.6 million tons in the same period of the last fiscal year, showing a growth of nine percent, the latest provisional numbers released by the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) revealed on Thursday.
The growth continues to come from higher petrol sales (up by 16 percent); followed by furnace oil (up by 11 percent), it showed.
Improved petrol consumption stems from gas curtailment to the transportation sector and higher domestic demand from generators, while the demand for furnace oil comes from improved liquidity of the power sector, it showed.
Among other major products, HSD (commonly known as diesel) showed a growth of mere two percent.
