On February 27th, morning, General Department of Statistic has released data import liquefied natural gas in February.
Accordingly, Vietnam imported 70,000 tonnes of liquefied nature gas in February, worth USD75 million. Total imports in the first two months this year reached 142,000 tonnes, worth USD142 million. Compared to the same time last year, the imports in the first two months this year increased 203.6% in volume and 216.5% in value.
The soaring of gas price in the world market since early this year has pushed retail price in the somestic market surged to the highest level so far. In January, retail price of gas gained VND32,000 to VND382,000 – 397,000 a cylinder of 12kg. In February, price continued to increase by VND42,000 to VND425,000 – 464,000 a 12kg cylinder.
Although gas price in the world market was too high, but Vietnam still import a huge volumes in the first two months as a strange.
The average price of gas imported in February was more than USD1,000 a tonne from USD921 a tonne in January and USD802 a tonne in December 2011.
At the business standpoint, Vietnam imported a huge quantities in the context of higher prices is unreasonable.
