On November, 21st, 2011, People's Committee of Kien Giang province had a meeting with a group of METI (including five major Japanese companies) to discuss and explore about the ability to buil a super-large floating storage system of national strategy oil reserves at coast of Phu Quoc island.
According to source supplied by METI, currently, there is no any country in the Southeast Asia use this advanced national strategic oil reserve technology on sea (some countries only have floating depots as a overcurrent storage vessel).
Also according to the experts of METI group, the building a super-large national floating storage system on sea has more advantages than on the mainland.
For example, it is simplier when move depots to another place, or it is less expensive for compensation and clearance costs when implements the construction. In addition, with modern construction technology nowaday also helps to buil the floating depot system on the sea without effect on the natural environment.
