As reported in late last week, Ministry of Finance has announced to restore import tax rate to 5% for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), but did not say the exact time for applying.
The news caused major distributors concern about import tax rate of gas will soon take effect in this week.
Currently, the import duty of LPG is 0%. Spokesman from PetroVietnam Gas said the restoration of import tax rate of gas is reasonable in the situation of the world gas prices slump, but he proposed Ministry of Finace to apply the new policy from July 2012.
He explainted that in June, distributors have enhanced to import from abroad after Dung Quat oil refinery stoppaged operation for maintenance. At that time, exporters took advantage to increase price and pushed the import price to soar, so PetroVietnam gas proposed Ministry of Finace to apply the new policy from July 2012 when Dung Quat oil refinery re-operate its mills and supply for domestic ditributors.
