Demand for cooking gas may up 6-7% in 2012
According to prediction released by Ministry of Industry and Trade, cooking gas consumption of Vietnam in 2012 will up by 6-7% over 2011.
Although higher demand in 2012, but domestic producted cooking gas is around 640,000 tonnes, only meet for 48% of market needs, and remaining 52% of the demand in 2012 will have to rely on imports.
It is known that cooking gas demand in Vietnam grew rapidly: in 1991, demand for cooking gas was around 50,000 tonnes; in 2000, demand up to 400,000 tonnes and in 2010, demand increased to 1.2 million tonnes. According to forecast, cooking gas demand in our country will be around 1.5 million tonnes in 2015 and 2 million tonnes in 2020.
Currently, the supplies of cooking gas are mainly from Dinh Co Gas Plant and the Dung Quat oil refinery. However, the two plants only meet about 40% of domestic demand, so over the remaining 50% of demand has to depend on imports. This is the main reason why domestic cooking gas prices always fluctuate with the world prices.
