Dầu thô tại New York lại giảm giá, tiến tá»›i chốt phiên má»™t tuần thất thế do lo ngại rằng thất bại trong thỏa thuận nâng mức nợ trần của Mỹ Ä‘ang lấn át những dấu hiệu phục hồi của nền kinh tế.

Dầu giao sau giảm 0.5% sau khi phát ngôn viên Nhà Trắng John Boehner tạm hoãn kế hoạch bỏ phiếu về dá»± thảo nâng mức nợ trần trong khi các nhà lãnh đạo Ä‘ang sẵn sàng tÆ° thế bác bỏ biện pháp này nếu được trình lên thượng viện. Dầu thô giao tháng 9 giảm 44 cent xuống mức 97.00 USD/thùng trong giao dịch Ä‘iện tá»­ tại sàn New York Mercantile Exchange, đạt 97.15 USD/thùng lúc 8h57 giờ Sydney. Hôm qua giá hợp đồng tăng 4 cent lên 97.44 USD. NhÆ° vậy trong tuần này, giá Ä‘ã hạ 2.8 % so vá»›i tuần trÆ°á»›c, song vẫn cao hÆ¡n 1.8% so vá»›i tháng trÆ°á»›c.

Dầu thô Brent giao tháng 9 hôm qua giảm 7 cent, chốt phiên ở mức 117.36 USD/thùng. Giao dịch chuẩn châu Âu có giá cao hÆ¡n 19.92 USD/thùng so vá»›i giao dịch Mỹ, thấp hÆ¡n mức chênh lệch ká»· lục 22.63 USD má»›i lập hôm 14/7.

Các đảng viên dân chủ của Thượng viện Ä‘ang tìm cách phá vỡ bế tắc trong việc thông qua nâng mức nợ trần bằng cách thiết lập má»™t cÆ¡ chế áp đặt nghiêm ngặt nhằm đảm bảo dá»± trù cho những thâm hụt trong tÆ°Æ¡ng lai. Crude Oil Falls, Heads for Weekly Decline, on U.S. Debt Ceiling Dispute

Oil fell in New York, heading for the first weekly decline in five weeks, as concern that a failure to reach a deal on raising the U.S. debt limit countered signs that the economy is improving.

Futures slipped as much as 0.5 percent after House Speaker John Boehner delayed a planned vote on debt-limit legislation as Senate leaders stood ready to kill the measure should it get to their chamber. Applications for unemployment benefits dropped more than forecast last week to the lowest since April, while contracts to buy previously owned homes rose in June.

“We’re waiting for a resolution to the impasse in a white- knuckle fashion,” said Jason Schenker, president of Prestige Economics LLC in Austin, Texas. The impact of the economic numbers “was limited because of the worries about a default.”

Crude for September delivery fell as much as 44 cents to $97.00 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, and was at $97.15 at 8:57 a.m. Sydney time. The contract yesterday rose 4 cents to $97.44. Prices are 2.8 percent lower this week and 1.8 percent higher the past month.

Brent oil for September settlement declined 7 cents to settle at $117.36 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange yesterday. The European benchmark contract settled at a premium of $19.92 a barrel to New York futures, compared with a record close of $22.63 on July 14.

Debt Vote
Senate Democrats are working to break the impasse over raising the U.S. debt limit by devising a strict enforcement mechanism to guarantee future deficit savings, according to Democratic officials.
With the House delaying a likely close vote on Boehner’s debt-ceiling increase proposal, negotiators were working to find a solution both sides could accept. Should the House pass Boehner’s bill, it faces a veto threat from President Barack Obama and a promise by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of defeat in that chamber.

The Labor Department said yesterday that jobless claims dropped by 24,000 to 398,000 in the week ended July 23. The median estimate of economists in a Bloomberg News survey called for a drop to 415,000. The number of contracts to purchase previously owned homes rose 2.4 percent in June as buyers tried to take advantage of lower prices and borrowing costs, figures from the National Association of Realtors showed.

Tropical Storm Don
Tropical Storm Don gained little strength as it moved across the Gulf of Mexico, forcing some oil and gas rigs to shut, on a course that will take it ashore in Texas as early as today. Don is 425 miles (684 kilometers) east-southeast of Corpus Christi with maximum winds of 45 miles (72 kilometers) per hour, according to a National Hurricane Center bulletin issued just before 5 p.m. East Coast time.

About 6.8 percent of oil production and 2.8 percent of natural gas output from the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in because of Don, according to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has evacuated all employees and halted production at six of its facilities in the western Gulf of Mexico, according to an update on the company’s website yesterday.

Oil exports from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will increase through to the middle of August on demand from Asian refiners, according to tanker-tracker Oil Movements.

Shipments will increase 0.5 percent to 22.93 million barrels a day in the four weeks to Aug. 13, the Halifax, England-based researcher said yesterday in a report. That compares with 22.81 million barrels in the period to July 16. The data excludes Ecuador and Angola.
